1. Clean the Nozzle Regularly

Residue builds up inside the nozzle over time, especially if you switch between filament types often. A cold pull (heating the nozzle, then pulling through a stiff filament like nylon as it cools) clears out debris and prevents clogs before they start. Do this every few dozen print hours, or immediately if you notice under-extrusion.

2. Re-Level the Bed Often

Bed leveling isn't a one-time setup step — thermal expansion, moving the printer, and normal wear all shift it over time. Most auto-leveling printers make this quick, but it's still worth checking before any print that matters. A bed that's slightly off is the most common cause of poor first-layer adhesion.

3. Lubricate the Rods and Rails

Smooth, quiet motion depends on clean, lubricated rails. A dry or dusty rail causes uneven layer lines and, over time, extra wear on your belts and motors. A light coat of the lubricant recommended in your printer's manual every month or two keeps everything moving the way it should.

4. Check Belt Tension

Loose belts show up as ghosting or ringing — faint repeated patterns near sharp corners in your prints. Give your X and Y belts a gentle press; they should feel firm, not loose or overly rigid. Most printers have a simple tensioning screw or clip to fix this in a couple of minutes.

5. Keep Firmware and Slicer Software Up to Date

Manufacturers regularly release firmware updates that fix bugs, improve calibration, and add new features. It's easy to forget about once a printer is set up and running well, but checking for updates every few months means you're always printing with the most stable, capable version of your machine.
